Women's Club Championship and Alan Hamer Cup Club Doubles Championship Finals - Sun. 15 December

A small but enthusiastic crowd witnessed an extraordinary day of tennis. The Women's A Grade Final was a close affair with Jo See Tan and Emma Clyde playing the highest quality match they've played against each other. Clyde got off to a good start, hanging with Tan early in the first set but as the match went on Tan slowly took control.

Following the Women's match, the players took the court for the final of the Alan Hamer Cup Club Doubles. With Michael Williams on one leg, after injuring his hamstring in the Gold Racket Final a fortnight before, and Paul Rosedale on limited preparation, it was expected to be a relatively straightforward match. What happened next surprised and delighted the viewers.

The first set was close from the start with the two pairs going game for game with Williams and Rosedale sneaking the final game to take the set. After the initial challenge, Kieran Booth and Daniel Williams seemed to settle into a rhythm and the next two sets went much more to plan, Booth and D Williams taking them 6/4 6/2 to take a 2 sets to 1 lead in the best of 5 set match. The fourth started in the same fashion, but at 2/5 down M Williams and Rosedale refused to give up and slowly clawed their way back to another 5/5 game.

After a long game they managed to win that game as well, taking the match to a fifth and final set. Again Booth and D Williams made a good start and at 5/1 up looked like they had the match sewn up, but M Williams and Rosedale had other ideas. Two very long games later and at 3/5, another upset was looking on the cards but Booth and D Williams were able to close out the set 6/3.

This win was Booth's eighth Club Doubles title in succession and D Williams' seventh, missing only last year's final due to injury.

The final epic of the day was played on the South Court between Emma Clyde and Andrew Gould and Bruce Harris and Vince Scopelliti. Both pairs had won their way through semi finals the day before and were primed for the final. It was a very long three set match with Harris and Scopelliti eventually winning 6/4 in the third set.
