60 Years & Under Handicap Doubles - Sat. 21 February

Pairs made the most of the age restrictions in the 60 Years and Under competition this year with a parent and offspring combination and other combinations in the high 50’s. We also enjoyed the company of the pair of interns from Ballarat as they came down to join in the fun.

Much frivolity was made, as is the custom at young members tournaments, and in the end we had to get the calculators out to decide the finalists. Both finals involved handicaps in the 1 serve and banned tambour territory and each was won 6/4, however they were won by pairs at either end of the handicap range.

The final was played by Adela Michelson and Luca Hehir (receiving 30) against Nick Stenning and Eli Kozma (owing 40, 1 serve, banned tambour and banned chases 3+4). It was a terrifically close match with the owing pair committing some errors at key moments (like a fault at 40-all, 4/4) but in the end Stenning and Kozma were able to hold their nerve to take the final game and win 6/5.
