Judith Clarke Cup and Australian Amateur Ladies Singles and Doubles – Saturday and Sunday 14th, 15th May
Calling on all lady members, book the weekend of the 14th and 15th May as a tennis weekend. The Judith Clarke Cup, annual ladies Melbourne vs Hobart competition, and the Australian Amateur Ladies Singles and Doubles tournaments are being run all weekend. The Amateur singles and doubles will be graded to accommodate all standards so book the date in your diary and get involved. With the tournament only a week and a half away now it’s time to start looking at potential partners for the doubles otherwise you may get allocated one by the pros.
Introductory Evening – Wednesday 8th June
The Club is always looking for potential new members and this is a perfect opportunity to introduce someone to the Club and our wonderful game. Run in the evening from 6-8PM, this event is usually well subscribed with 10 or more new players all seeing the game with fresh eyes. Take this opportunity and bring someone new to the game in to experience our game under the guidance of the professionals.
Dark MOFO Tournament in Hobart – Saturday and Sunday 18th, 19th June
The Dark MOFO tournament is being held in Hobart again this year. It is set to coincide with the last weekend of the music and arts festival organised by MONA owner David Walsh and last year’s edition was a terrific success. We need a lady to champion the tournament in Melbourne so if you’re keen to play in Hobart and attend an exciting tournament and weekend please let us know.
See you on court
Lunch Special This Friday
There is a ‘Club Lunch Special’ this Friday 6 May: bring three guests for lunch at the Club and enjoy a bottle of RMTC Shiraz “for free and at no cost”. Bookings with the Pro Shop essential. (The RMTC ‘Dining Room’ is open for lunch on Wednesdays and Fridays, with scrumptious meals prepared by our Head Chef, Evie)
Match Report – Saskia’s Goodbye Party
On behalf of all present last Friday, a massive thank you to Lizzie Brown and Frank Filippelli for cooking up a Dutch feast to celebrate Saskia Bollerman’s time at The Royal Melbourne Tennis Club. Before the party kicked off, Julian Snow displayed glimpses of fine tennis from his younger days to narrowly beat Saskia in the Christa Abdallah Trophy – a trophy for ‘an occasional tennis match between a man and a woman’. We wish Saskia all the best for her studies back in Holland and we look forward to seeing her warm smile back in Melbourne in the not too distant future.
