International Tennis Day – Monday 20th June
Carol Miller
On a cold wet grey Monday morning in Melbourne we all agreed there was no place we’d rather be than on the real tennis court!

Six adult players (Anne and Geoff Dempster, Kathryn Arndt, Michael Hurley, Charlie Wright and Carol Miller) took to the courts for International Tennis Day.  We played doubles and singles matches and all games were very enjoyable and sociable.  We were also joined by Lily Fee who is only 11 years old.  She took to the game like a duck to water with some great serves using the standard racket and traditional balls.

Afterwards we enjoyed a magnificent lunch of roasted chicken and vegetables cooked by Fred Kininmonth.  Thanks so much Fred, it finished off the day perfectly.

Here is Lily Fee’s recollection of the day.
“Today at the RMTC we celebrated International Tennis Day.  My Mum, Kathryn, played with a very nice man called Michael.  My Mum played very well but unfortunately lost (5/6).  I got to do the ‘marking’ (scoring) of the game.  It was a challenge but luckily I had John and Charlie to help me.

When I finished watching Mum’s game I went and had a hit with John, Carol and Annie.  We practised serving and hits off the penthouse.

After we finished playing we went down to the dining room and had some beautiful roast chicken with beans, gravy and roast vegetables.

I had a really good day.”

Upcoming Tournaments
School Holiday Junior (U16) Clinics – Tuesday & Thursday, 5th & 7th July
School holidays are on us again, this week for some and next week for others but at least the week of the 5th and 7th of July for all, and by the second week of holidays kids will be bored of sitting at home enjoying themselves all day. Why not bring your little ones in and let us look after them for an hour; we’ll play games, hit tennis balls and make merry while you have a break in one of the many terrific cafes and you never know, you may even have a future world champion when you get home.

Christmas in July Handicap Doubles – Sunday 10th July
It’s that time again, we’re almost half way through the year, the weather’s cooled down and those of us more accustomed to the cooler climes of the Northern Hemisphere are itching to get into the kitchen and prepare a piping hot feast to keep us warm. Unfortunately we’re not in the Northern Hemisphere but don’t worry, the Royal Melbourne Tennis Club has you covered with the Christmas in July Handicap Doubles including Christmas lunch. Contact the pro shop or come in to sign up and join the festivities.

See you on court
