Tournament Reports
RMTC vs MCCRTS – Sunday 24th July
22 players (including Professional staff Kate Leeming and John Woods-Casey) came together on Sunday to meet in battle for the ‘at home’ match between RMTC and the MCCRTS.

This tournament, which is held twice a year, has now been running for a number of years and is a reflection of the strong partnership established between RMTC and MCCRTS a number of years ago for the purpose of encouraging and facilitating players into the game of Real Tennis. It is also an opportunity for RMTC to display our Club’s wonderful facilities.

Of the 22 players, a number came from complimentary racquet ball backgrounds such as lawn tennis, badminton and squash (the later making the use of walls look easy – unfortunately for some of us with only a tennis background).

In the highly competitive and tightly fought battle, the two teams went into the final match of the day head to head at 8 matches all. The final match, played by Russel Howcroft and Jo See Tan (RMTC) against Matt Downey and Calum Munro (MCCRTS) resulted in a decisive victory in favour of MCCRTS (9/2). It was great to see the quality of tennis being played by all players, in particular Jo See and Matt – both relatively new members to the Club and both coming from squash. Calum’s badminton background and keen volleying skills secured the final win. Russel displayed his usual enthusiasm for the game, having rushed back from meetings for most of the day just to play this final match.

Thank you to Julia McCahey for organising lunch supplies which were then prepared by Jo See – with the role of supervising the heating of the quiches delegated to Andrew Gould as Jo See and I took to court for the pre lunch midday match.

The break for lunch at 12.30pm allowed for relaxed and enjoyable conversation before the afternoon battle began.

Thanks to Tabs, Kate and John for marking the day’s matches. Special thanks to Tabs for his mercy coffee pod supply run to Aldi – much to the relief of some of those players who arrived feeling somewhat worse for wear due to Saturday evening frivolities.
