Exhibition Street Cup (16-17 May) – results
This is a sought after trophy and an honour board event, thanks to Josef Brunhuber. Thus there was fierce competition amongst the 8 pairs for some gold lettering. None competed better last Sunday than Michele O’Rorke / Scott Patterson who defeated the uber talented duo of Lizzie Brown / Georgie Lewis 6/4 in the doubles final. Michelle’s accurate shots into the dedans and Scott’s returns from the tambour were too much in the end. Georgie gave it her all, including several glorious “floor” shots – where she ended up at full stretch on the floor at more than a yard worse than last. It was also nice to see Frankie and Tabs competing on court in this event with members enjoying their matches all the more for their presence.
Evergreen Julian Snow once again staked his claim to being the best handicap tournament player in the Club by defeating Paul Rosedale 9/5 in the singles final. Paul struggled to find a serve to restrict Julian who punished Paul by relentlessly hitting deep into the side wall with heavy cut to Paul’s backhand. Some expected aggressive forcing by Paul was not enough to overcome Julian’s tight floor game. Again, Julian wins!
Thank you to all those that competed, watched and marked the matches – including Kate and Jonners. We all thoroughly enjoyed the stunning beef fillet for lunch on Sunday prepared by Julie Baker. Also a special thanks to Wally Cockram for organising the tournament.
Dear Members, it has been bought to our attention that some members are leaving their cars in the RMTC carpark for the entire day, and members who are trying to park so they can enjoy their tennis and the club facilities are experiencing difficulties in finding a parking spot. Please be considerate of other members and make other arrangements for the parking of your car if you are not using the club facilities at the time. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
