I am thrilled to announce that the Royal Melbourne Tennis Club will be hosting the World Championship in 2010. The precise date of the event will be announced shortly – probably the first week of May.
It is planned to hold an opening cocktail party, a Championship dinner and a final dinner on the Saturday evening. An AFL function on the Friday night is also planned. This will be an exciting week and interest from overseas is already strong, so it will be a true celebration of world tennis. There will also be an International Pro Am and “World Championship” handicap doubles.
Application forms will be sent in due course, please book in early to avoid disappointment!

Michael MacAleavey is running a handicap doubles tournament on St Patrick’s Day (March 17) from 7am-9am, followed by breakfast. It will be a fun and informal morning’s tennis, with Irish coffee to perk up your day! Contact Mike or the pros to sign up.
The first Quarterly Medal competitions for 2009 were held at RMTC on Saturday, 28th February. A full complement of 20 players competed in four round-robin groups, with first matches on court at 8am and the final matches wrapping up at 6pm.
The morning competition saw Fiona Hewson and Brendan O’Brien run out winners in their respective groups, each with three wins from four matches. The winners in the afternoon groups were even more dominant, with Sophie Johnson and Owen Guest completing their four round-robin matches undefeated.
All four winners from Saturday’s Quarterly Medal, as well as those from the upcoming Medals later in the year, are invited to compete in the elimination “Medal of Medallists” competition on Finals’ Day in December.
The renowned RMTC pizza specialists – Lizzie Brown, Frank Filippelli, and Michael Petruccelli – have been persuaded to put on another of their very popular evenings, on Friday 27 March starting at around 6-00pm.
The evening will be a fundraiser for Dan Williams, Simon Carr and Paul Rosedale who have been selected for the U26 Australian team touring England and America in July, where they will represent us in the inaugural George Limb Trophy at Lord’s in London, and then attempt to regain the Clothier Cup in Newport, Rhode Island.
The cost is $20 per person, with an (initial) limit of 60 spots. Please sign up at the club or call the pro-shop.
See you there.
