On Sunday 2nd December, a determined group of ladies came together to battle it out for the Joan M Hayne 2012 Women’s Handicap Doubles.

In support, came a number of small children and a handful of dogs. However, being experts in the art of multi-tasking, these added responsibilities did not distract the ladies from the task at hand!

Anabelle Guest together with Isabelle Carr formed a competitive pair. Experienced doubles player Michelle O’Rourke joined forces with the ever strategic Evelyn Yee. The skills and class of Wendy Whitehead combined with those of Stephanie Williams kept the at times exuberant pairing of Georgie Lewis and Kathryn Arndt in check! The youthful vigour of Freya Fajgman, who kindly agreed to complete the numbers, together with the experience and talents of Anne Stanley, set the pace for the day.

After a close round robin, Michelle and Evelyn progressed to the finals against Georgie and Kathryn. Despite Georgie and Kathryn winning an earlier match against Michelle and Evelyn, the final was a battle to the very end! At 5 all, Advantage all, Michelle and Evelyn became the deserved winners of the tournament.

Thank you to Pros Kate and Jonners for your support throughout the day. A big thank you to Merrin McKay and Julie Baker for providing lunch for players, supporters and pros (not to mention the four legged supporters who appeared very excited by the smell of the delicious hamburgers).

Congratulations to all the ladies who participated on the day and to Alistair Curley for presenting the winners trophy on behalf of the RMTC.
