Victorian Open 2012

Come in this evening and watch the final of the George Limb Victorian Open Doubles at 6PM. Light food will be provided and the tennis will no doubt be of the highest standard as the brothers Booth take on Snow and Sievers.

Monday (tonight) 6pm – VIC Open Doubles Final
H. Booth/K. Booth vs. C. Sievers/J. Snow

In previous matches Sievers/Snow defeated the Williams brothers in the first semi-final 6/2 6/2 and in the other semi-final the Booths were too strong for the debonair silver topped and slightly rakish pairing of Mike Happell and Paul Tabley. Happell and Tabley had their chances but in the end the 6/3 6/3 score line was a fair reflection of the gap between the teams.

Congratulations to Kieran Booth on winning his first Woolner Stone Victorian Open Singles title. Kieran won the title yesterday by beating Julian Snow 3/6 6/2 6/3 in what was an intense battle. Both players did a lot of running over two hours with relatively few outright winners being hit. Julian seemed to enjoy himself when he got a railroad serve to work on the first try and Kieran when he won a point with an unexpected lob.

In the singles semi-finals Snow defeated Frank Filippelli and Booth defeated Happell, both in straight sets.

We hope to see you in the club this evening.

Grand Final Morning Doubles

On Grand Final morning the club was slightly quieter than usual, down on Swan street all the road signs had been redesigned to “Hawk st” especially for the big day. Supporters flocked to the MCG gates in anticipation of a great game.

Meanwhile at RMTC, a small draw of 5 pairs all turned up cheerful and willing to enjoy the tennis as a warm up before the main Grand Final being played at the MCG between rival teams, Sydney Swans and Hawthorn. Tt was a social and highly interactive morning, involving non stop play or marking all morning, efficiently kept on track by Jonners, before a Grand Final was played between the highly competitive Chris Webb and steady partner Michelle O’Rorke against occasional pairing of Lesley O’Byrne and Fiona Hewson. This win went to the Hawthorn pairing of Hewson and O’Byrne, perhaps a little bittersweet as later in the day at least one Swan’s supporter (Chris Webb) in the tournament was happy with the result.

Well done to the Hawks and the Swans.

O’Byrne and Hewson def Webb and O’Rorke 6/3
